The Globe and Mail: hiring practices must support DEI goals.
88% of Canadian leaders say that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is embedded in their culture and integral to everything they do. At the same time, only 54% agree that their hiring practices supported diversity and inclusion goals last year. This disconnect in theory versus practice can have a negative impact, especially when staffing is becoming increasingly more challenging.
Understanding what your current employees think about DEI can be a starting point to re-energize your initiatives. Gaining feedback from all levels of your workforce can give you insights into the missing links in your DEI strategy.
Veronica Frisch, executive vice president at Randstad Sourceright in Canada, stresses that “this type of program must start at the top level and work itself down.” She advises that DEI goals be embedded into every aspect of talent strategies — from intake to hire — along with plans to reinforce the behaviors and messages that create a truly diverse and equitable organization.
