Constant innovation in biopharma has created an exciting time for new discoveries in human health. The recent pace of advancement, however, has decelerated for many firms due to talent shortages in the life sciences sector.
In Randstad Sourceright’s 2021 Talent Trends research, more than half (52%) of life sciences human capital and C-suite leaders say that talent scarcity had a big impact on their business this year. One of those impacts is the slower-than-anticipated rollout of new technologies, with only 13% of firms increasing their use of automation and robotics.
Other research shows that while pharma is paying better than ever, a gender pay gap still remains. Some employers are offering on-site childcare and other amenities to attract talent. But flexibility seems to be a sticking point within the industry, and that’s keeping people away.
