personnel today: hiring process overlooks dyslexic skills.
Although 64% of HR leaders surveyed say their organization’s recruitment process can identify Dyslexic Thinking skills, a mere 4% of actual Dyslexic Thinkers believe the hiring process identifies their skills.
This is just one of the findings in a new report from Randstad Enterprise and global charity Made By Dyslexia about the experiences of Dyslexic Thinkers in the workplace. Based on responses from more than 900 HR leaders and 1,500 dyslexic employees, the research highlights how employers may be missing out on the power of Dyslexic Thinking and the unique skills Dyslexic Thinkers bring to the workplace, such as problem-solving and creative thinking.
Overall, the report reveals a “shocking discrepancy between HR’s perception and understanding of dyslexia in the workplace, compared to those who are dyslexic,” according to Kate Griggs, CEO and founder of Made By Dyslexia.
“Organizations can make significant advances with the proper adjustments, ensuring people are treated fairly and inclusively throughout the recruitment process and providing suitable support,” adds Mike Smith, chief executive of Randstad Enterprise.
