Human Resource Executive: women’s lost income.
The millions of women who left the workforce during the pandemic not only affected their own family finances, they impacted the entire U.S. economy, to the tune of $800 billion in lost income. It’s a staggering number to come back from.
Rebecca Henderson, CEO, global business, and executive board member of Randstad, highlighted this during the Women in HR Tech Summit in Las Vegas. The effect is not only economic, but also personal as women experience high rates of burnout and exhaustion. Domestic violence has also increased as families spend more time home together.
The strides working women made over the past decades have largely been erased. “There is rising stress in households,” said Henderson, “and women are bearing the brunt of this.” She asks employers to consider all of these factors when attracting women back into the workforce.
