Fortune: the secret to getting workers off the sidelines.

Employers continue to struggle with the impacts of “The Great Resignation.” Many of those who left the workforce still haven’t returned, despite an overabundance of jobs.

According to Monster.com, more than 40% of employers say they plan to improve employee benefits and perks this year. That should help, along with higher pay. As long as they also give workers the freedom to work a flexible schedule, that is.

“If you have the capability to offer people flexible employment, you need to be using that … ,” says Mike Smith, CEO of Randstad Sourceright. Parents and caregivers in particular are looking for flexible and remote opportunities to help them balance career and family.

Economists predict that workers who resigned, or maybe even retired, will run out of savings over time. But companies that need to hire now can’t wait.
