Blavity: 5 ways to advance diverse talent in your organization.
While companies are aware of the benefits of having a diverse workforce, many still treat it like a business requirement rather than an integral part of their culture. What can organizations do to ensure diversity remains at the forefront throughout the entire employee life cycle?
To begin with, “companies need to adjust their mindset and recognize that diverse organizations are more successful organizations,” writes Audra Jenkins, chief diversity and inclusion officer for Randstad US. “A broad chorus of voices, opinions and perspectives can lead to innovation and improved performance.”
Leaders should remember that diversity does not start and end with hiring, and inclusion should be made an essential part of the company culture. “Ultimately, simply building a diverse team of unique individuals is not enough,” continues Jenkins. “Companies should strive to create a sense of belonging, which is a deeper level of inclusion that creates a safe space for employees to be who they truly are, in every way.”
